Raffles, CDs and guests

Hello all

Thanks to everyone who came on Thursday and made our third meeting another successful one. A number of people have already achieved the status of "club regular" both as performers and non-performers.

We were entertained by a number of regulars but also welcomed first timers Kevin, Nigel and Barry. Club regular John made his debut performance and Simeon brought a new dimension to MCing with a string of jokes and stories.

We are already getting a rich variety of music but do keep putting the word around because the more people we attract the more variety we will enjoy.

The already legendary club raffle was dogged by controversy. Derek and Tess drew their own ticket to win the wine and this was quickly followed by Sue and Julian, who had already won the free entry tickets, drawing their other ticket to win edition two of "Great Tea Towels of the World". The independent adjudicator could find no evidence of foul play so they went home with Great Yarmouth. Many might say it served them right!

The battle of the CDs was won by Kate Rusby with Barbara taking Awkward Annie home.

Our first guests are booked for 22nd April. You can get a preview of Katriona Gilmore and Jamie Roberts at  http://www.gilmoreroberts.co.uk/  so do have a look and put the date in your diary. We are hoping to confirm a second guest night in June. I'll be sending out more information next month.

Our next meeting is on 4th March so I hope to see you all then.

Have a great weekend

Paul

‘Great Tea Towels of the World’

Hello all

A reminder that the Shirley Red Lion Folk Club meets again on Thursday this week (11th Feb) at 7.45 for an 8.00pm start. As well as the usual mix of good music and great company I can also reveal that edition 2 of the "Great Tea Towels of the World" series will feature in the raffle. We will also have exciting news of our very first guests who are now booked to appear at the club in April.

Bring your voices and your friends. See you on Thursday?

Paul
